June 2010
06/20/10 - Nationals was a success with our 8th place overall finish out of 22 teams. This was San Jose State University's 2nd appearance at Nationals and first time in 13 years. We would like to thank Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo for hosting and also congratulate them on their 1st championship. We had a 4th place finish in Oral Presentation, 7th in Design Paper, 12th in Final Product, and 8th overall in the Races. We would like to thank all the sponsors that have helped us successfully get to nationals this year. We would also thank everyone who made it out this past weekend and helped cheer us on. Now it is time to start on next year and hopefully we can find success again.

 

 

 May 2010

05/01/10 - Today we had our Open House and BBQ Fundraiser. It was a huge success. Thank you to all that came out and donated. Our turnout was not as good as we expected, but we still were able to raise more than expected to help send us to Nationals. We are currently still looking for donation to help us go to Nationals. April 2010

04/13/10 - Mid-Pac was a success and we are now headed to Nationals with our 2nd place finish. This will be San Jose State University's 2nd appearance at Nationals and we hope to beat our 6th place finish in 1997. We look forward to joining the University of Nevada, Reno as Mid-Pacific Regional competitors at Nationals. UNR finished 1st in the races and final product, while we took 1st in oral presentation and design paper. We lost a close fight for first by 0.6 of a point to UNR. We would also like to thank Chico for a great conference. The National Concrete Canoe Competition will be held June 17-19 in San Luis Obispo.

 

 

 

 

04/07/10 - Finished packing tonight and we are ready to go. Chico here we come.

03/29/10 - We are still sanding away getting ready for the Mid-Pacific Conference hosted by Chico. We will be working almost everyday the next two weeks to finish the canoe. We need all the help we can get.

January 2010
01/31/10 - Construction day was a success. We were able to construct the canoe in less than four hours. Now it is time to sand and finish the canoe before Mid-Pac. 67 day left. Thanks to all that came out to construct.
December 2009

 12/06/09 - The first practice construction day took place today and we got to test out some new construction techniques that we have come up with this year. The next practice construction day will take place Wednesday December 16th from 7-9 PM. Also the 2010 Construction Day has been decided to be Saturday January 30th 9am-5pm.

November 2009

 11/09/09 - The construction team is working hard and is close to finalizing the form. After a few tests with our test form we have decided to just use a female form this year. The next task for the construction team is focusing on getting the right reinforcement. The mix team has come up with some solid base mixes and is now working on making it better and testing different recycled aggregates.

Our work day for this weekend is

Saturday November 14th from 9-3 in the ENGR Quad.

Our next meeting will be Thursday November 12th at 4:30 in ENGR 150.

 October 2009

10/15/09 - Construction is going well and we are working on the mold. We are about to test our new mold and in the next week we will know if it will work.  Mix design has been under way for over a month and is working on a base mix. The turnout so far this year has been great with many new members joining and we are glad that we have the new help.

 

 

Our work days for this weekend our Friday October 16th

from 11-3 and Saturday 17th from 9-3 in the ENGR Quad.

September 2009

09/12/09 - Today was our first construction day. We had a good turn out and now we are waiting for the rules to come out so that we can get started. Hopefully on Monday we will find out the rules.

09/03/09 - Tonight was the first canoe meeting of the year. Many returning members and new members participated and talked about the plan for the 2009-2010 school year. Now we just have to wait until the rules come out.

July 2009

07/27/09 - The leadership staff has been announced for the 2009-2010 Concrete Canoe Competition which is full of returning members. The leadership staff is currently working on the funding proposal and project schedule. Everyone is excited and ready to start the new year.

The theme and name of the 2009-2010 Canoe is in the works and will be announced in the coming weeks.


June 2009
06/20/09 - No real news for the month of June. We're working on setting up the organizational structure of the team and preparing for our leadership staff bonding trip. Other than brainstorming sessions and fund raising, we can't really design anything until the rules are published, which typically happens around the 2nd week of September.

One thing's for sure however, the entire leadership staff from project management to paddling will consist of veteran members to continue our quest for victory in the Mid-Pacific Regional Conference.
